Curriculum Night

All teachers: Please review and note the September 10 deadline for your Curriculum Night preparation tasks. See Curriculum Night Planning (Teachers).

PD Day Slides and Follow Up

The slide deck from the sessions on September 3 and 4 is here. A copy is also now available in the staff Google Calendar under both dates.

Lang Innovation Lab Bookings

Please use the following link to book your classes in the Lang Innovation Lab. Feel free to contact Program Director Natalie (Nat) Cannistraro with any questions. A tile will also be available on the Staff Portal homepage.

Changes to Room Availability and Bookings

Room L140 is now available for bookings on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Wednesdays to Fridays, the room will be occupied by a new master of social work student, Zena Dia, who is starting on Wednesday, September 11. Note that Head of Senior School Coretta Sampson, who was occupying this office, has moved to the former seminar room 318.

Lock Your Classroom Doors

Please lock classroom doors after every class, club or meeting. Doors will automatically lock at 4 p.m. It is critically importance for student safety that doors are not left open, giving students access to classrooms without adult supervision.

Coverage Requests for Experiential Ed Trips

Teachers who will be missing any classes while supporting UTS Experiential Education trips from September 11 to 13 are kindly requested to complete their coverage requests by Monday, September 9 or earlier. Coverage assignment details can be completed closer to the departure time.

Standby Coverage Blocks

Teachers who are not away on experiential learning trips and have a class that is away are on Standby Coverage Blocks and will be on standby to cover classes for teachers who are away and require class coverage. If you have a split class, and or concerns, please let the Main Office know. If you will not be available during your standby block, please follow the staff absences protocol in the Employee Handbook, complete ADP and make a coverage request on the data hub.

UTS Family BBQ

Join us at the UTS Family BBQ on Friday, September 20, 4:30 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the new school year as a community.

As staff of UTS, you are invited to this inaugural event, which will include delicious food, delightful music and prizes!

Please RSVP by Thursday, September 12. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sarah Behl, at 416.978.8921 or sarah.behl@utschools.ca, in the Office of Advancement.

Access Rights Guidelines and Procedures

Please note that one additional policy has been added this year, and is summarized in the Policy Changes for 2024-25 document.

These guidelines clarify school staff procedures for handling access to student information and custodial rights for single, divorced or separated parents.

  • Access to information is a right of the child, not the parent, and custodial parents cannot deny access to the other parent without a court order.

  • Schools require parents to submit custody information through a Court Order or Separation Agreement, and in the absence of such documents, both parents have equal custodial rights.

  • School staff must remain neutral in custody disputes, and custodial arrangements (e.g., sole, joint or non-parent custody) dictate the rights of the parents.

Great stories? Let Comms know!

Got an awesome class activity on the horizon? Hosting a fascinating guest speaker? Or maybe there’s a great update that showcases how UTS ignites the brightest minds to make a difference in the world? Drop us a line at communications@utschools.ca and share the magic happening in your classroom.

We’re collecting stories all year long to highlight what makes UTS shine through blogs, the annual report, social media and beyond!

And while student accomplishments are always worth celebrating, we’re looking to focus on the learning journey that got them there. Let’s put the spotlight on experiences that build our incredible community those moments of discovery, collaboration and curiosity that make UTS such a unique place to learn!

Staff Nametags

To support building relationships in our community with ease, please make a habit of wearing your nametag. In preparation for Curriculum Night, if returning staff are unable to locate their nametag from last year, please click here and request a new one by Monday, September 10.

Guest Speakers and Volunteers

Advancement is available to assist staff with the selection of alumni or parent guest speakers and volunteers. We also have a wide variety of gifts for the speakers/volunteers at the UTS Shop. Browse the offerings and fill out a transfer form including your department budget number. The form is available from David Haisell and is stored in the forms section on the staff portal. (Gift wrapping and cards are available as well!)
