Equity Corner

Welcome to Equity Corner.

Each month we will post about workshops, book ideas and any other kind of equity information or updates.

If you have any equity suggestions or information you would like us to share, please email aedi@utschools.ca and put Equity Corner in the subject line.

Senior Drama Night + Matinee

February 22 during period 3 (Day 3 Block A) is our matinee performance of Love and Information by Caryl Churchill. In short, it's a play that examines a world (our world?) with too much information, and not enough love.

All of the M3 Drama classes (as well as the M4, S5 and S6 Drama students) are involved in the production and will be out of class on February 22 all day. There are over 70 students on stage. We'd love an audience.

If it makes sense for you to bring your class to watch the show, we would be so appreciative and happy to have you. The matinee starts at 1 p.m. in the Withrow Auditorium and will conclude by the end of period 3. If you can’t make the matinee, but want to see the show, we will have an evening performance at 6:30 p.m.

Please email Mel Shaddick at melissa.shaddick@utschools.ca with any questions, and/or if you’d like to bring a class to our matinee.

Relationship Mapping Project

We are full of gratitude for staff engagement in this project. By way of an update, the RMP working group members, Victoria, Sean H., Alan, Marleen, Rachel, Nancy, Charline, Leanne and Joelle have met twice since the mapping data was collected and compiled in November. Together we have:

  • reviewed the data

  • explored and mapped opportunities for building connections with adults in the building

  • invited staff to intentionally attend to opportunities for connecting with students identified through the map

The working group's mandate is to work with the information and internal resources we have in support of our goal - that every student in our community is known by a caring adult.

In appreciation, the RMP working group

Silver Lining

Thanks to Emma Jenkin for providing this week’s Silver Living. If you would like to share a Silver Lining for a future Staff Update, please submit your content here.

Every bursted bubble has a glory!

Each abysmal failure makes a point!

Every glowing path that goes astray,

Shows you how to find a better way.

So every time you stumble never grumble.

Next time you'll bumble even less!

For up from the ashes, up from the ashes, grow the roses of success!

For every big mistake you make, be grateful!

That mistake you'll never make again!

Every shiny dream that fades and dies,

Generates the steam for two more tries!

There's magic in the wake of a fiasco!

It gives you that chance to second guess!

Then up from the ashes, up from the ashes grow the roses of success!
